Odds for each number being rolled in craps

Before you become a craps player you might want to know the possible outcomes for each number being rolled, so in this post I'll show you the possible ways for each number on the dice to be rolled.

For the number 2 you can roll a one and a one to make 2 so you have one chance to roll the number 2.

For the number 3 you can roll a two and a one or a one and a two so you have two chances to roll the number 3.

For the number 4 you can roll a two and a two, a three and a one, or a one and a three, so you have three chances to roll the number 4.

For the number 5 you can roll a one and a four, a two and a three, a three and a two, and a four and a one, so you have four chances to roll the number 5.

For the number 6 you can roll a one and a five, a two and a four, a three and a three, a four and a two, and a five and a one, so you have five chances to roll the number 6.

For the number 7 you can roll a one and a six, a two and a five, a three and a four, a four and a three, a five and a two, and a six and a one, so you have six chances to roll the number 7.

For the number 8 you can roll a two and a six, a three and a five, a four and a four, a five and a three, and a six and a two, so you have 5 chances to roll the number 8.

For the number 9 you can roll a three and a six, a four and a five, a five and a four, and a six and a three, so you have four chances to roll the number 9.

For the number 10 you can roll a four and a six, a five and a five, and a six and a four, so you have three chances to roll the number 10.

For the number 11 you can roll a five and a six, and a six and a five, so you have two chances to roll the number 11.

For the number 12 you can roll a six and a six, so you have one chance to roll the number 12.

Last year I was trying to teach a friend of mine this and he asked me why do you have three and four then four and three on the number seven?  Shouldn't it be just three and four or four and three? He claimed that I was just repeating myself on numbers for each number.  Here's why you have three and four and four and three.  You have 2 dice, not one dice, so you have to show each possibility for each dice to land.  Because of this I use dice a and dice b so dice a would have to land on four and dice b would have to land on three or dice a would have to land on three and dice b would have to land on four.

Now that we know how many times each number can show up, I'm going to add them up so we can come up with the odds for each number to land.

2:1
3:2
4:3
5:4
6:5
7:6
8:5
9:4
10:3
11:2
12:1
If you add up the numbers for each number can be rolled you'll get a total of 36 possibilities

Now that we have the total possibilities let me show you the odds for each number.
2: 1/36
3: 2/36
4: 3/36
5: 4/36
6: 5/36
7: 6/36
8: 5/36
9: 4/36
10: 3/36
11: 2/36
12: 1/36
